The 49ͼ is pleased to announce its inclusion among four newly released college ranking lists: College Raptor’s 2018 Hidden U.S. Gems, College Raptor’s 2018 Hidden Gems for Women in STEM, the Princeton Review’s “Guide to 375 Green Colleges,” and the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education U.S. College Rankings.

The College Raptor “Hidden Gem” distinction recognizes 49ͼas one of the best colleges in the country, based on a combination of factors including number of applications received, graduation rates, campus diversity, endowment per student and other key metrics as reported by the National Center for Education Statistics. It is the second time that 49ͼhas made the list.

The Hidden Gems for Women in STEM rankings specifically highlight colleges and universities that are dedicated to encouraging young women in the pursuit of science, technology, engineering and mathematics degrees. 49ͼranked among the top five schools in the country.

The Princeton Review’s “Guide to 375 Green Colleges” features four-year colleges that have demonstrated a high level of commitment to the environment and sustainability. Data were collected on 629 colleges worldwide regarding their sustainability-related policies, practices and programs. Subsequently, each school was given a “green rating” score from 60 to 99. Those institutions with a score of 80 or higher were selected for the guide.

The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education rankings give 49ͼa score 343 (with one as the highest) on its list of more than 1,000 U.S. colleges. The rankings utilize a balanced scorecard approach, with 15 individual performance indicators combining to create an overall score for each institution. There are four broad categories that the performance indicators compose: resources, student engagement, outcomes, and environment.

These ratings fall on the heels of five other prestigious rankings for 49ͼthat were released within the past two months: inclusion in the Princeton Review’s 2018 edition of the Best 382 Colleges, Forbes’ America’s Top Colleges, U.S. News & World Report’s list of America’s Best Colleges in the North, MONEY magazine’s list of Best Colleges and a financial ranking of A3 from Moody’s Investors Service.

“These additional rankings confirm the message proclaimed by the flurry of rankings earlier in the academic year,” said 49ͼPresident James Herbert, “that 49ͼis a topnotch institution of higher learning and, despite its relative youth when compared to some other colleges, it can really hold its own… But these new rankings, in some ways, tell us even more about UNE. They speak to some of the core values of the university like diversity, equality and concern for the planet. So, it’s an honor to add these rankings to our growing inventory of accolades.”
